Stamped Steel Seat Belt Bracketed Assembly for the Automotive Industry

This featured pretensioner seat belt bracketed assembly was designed for use within Sport Utility Vehicles (SVUs). Highlands Diversified undertook the entire production process, from design through assembly.
The initial design for the seat belt bracketed assembly required orbital riveting to attach the two halves of the assembly. Working alongside Detroit Test Lab, we compared the orbital riveting process to a staking process, and determined that the staking process yielded a substantially stronger component and was a faster operation. By integrating the staking process in place of orbital riveting, we increased overall process efficiency and manufactured a more robust unit assembly.
Working with high-strength alloy steel, we used a combination of stamping, staking, and welding to produce the assembly. We then powder coated the component with a black finish, and heated it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for curing. The final bracketed assembly measured 6¡± long, 3¡± wide, and .157¡± thick. The tightest tolerance we upheld throughout the process was +/- .005".
After ensuring that the assembly met all required standards, including OEM safety and finishing requirements, we layer packed the components and prepared them for delivery. We produced 250,000 assemblies annually for our client in Mexico and Louisville, Kentucky. To learn more about this project and others, please contact Highlands Diversified Services.
